Alcohol and other drug abuse is the largest preventable cause of death in the U.S.
The growing problem of substance abuse not only costs us millions of dollars — it costs us in less visible ways, leads to family violence, threatens our public safety, taxes our health care system, and often leads to tragic and premature deaths. Its effects reach far beyond the abuser or addict — to family, friends, workplace, and the community.
Since its founding in 1946, the Council has taken the community’s health to heart in developing effective campaigns designed to reduce the incidence and impact of alcohol and drug abuse. We have been an important avenue to information, prevention, and early intervention. Working with every age group throughout North Texas, we offer the resources and experience to help.
A non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, the Council is a partner of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas; has programs funded through the Texas Dept. of State Health Services; and accepts donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
