"Ultimately, when it comes to the basic reality of adolescent abuse and addiction, I simply want our communities'
kids to have access to programs that will help them through these difficult years…Substance abuse and addiction
can be life or death, but substance abuse prevention works!"
-Rudy Gatlin
"I support the Council because I am passionate about preventing alcoholism."

The Council offers internship experiences second to none for college students.
Supervision...The senior managers supervising this program are interested in nurturing an effective, mutually rewarding relationship between our community-oriented, health organization and interns.
Experience...The current work environment demands field experience, and students often find themselves holding a degree but not enough job related exposure. The Council answers this call by providing a well-rounded journey through all aspects of the business and non-profit world in the current, competitive environment.
Areas of Interest...Although one might assume we are best matched with social work and/or public health majors, we have specific opportunities for individuals who thrive in and want to gain real-life experience with:
- public relations
- marketing
- branding
- internal communications
- external communications
- Board relations
|
- special events
- grant writing
- solicitation calendars
- donor cultivation & relations
- websites
- volunteer management

We believe students possessing any of the above skills/interest can fine-tune them at the Council. Our management team possesses degrees in a variety of areas, and there is a constant blending of creative ideas in all aspects of our influential non-profit. The mid-size environment creates an ideal learning situation, as interns will be included in managerial discussions and decisions in addition to day-to-day activities.
Schedule...Whether a requirement for graduation, a class credit, or a strategic decision to prepare for the workplace, the Council is flexible to complement almost any schedule.
Bonus...Some of our former interns wanted to experience the Council programs in action. As scheduling permitted, they staffed health fairs, assisted in facilitating regional policy forums, helped plan the BuzzFree PROMises Dress Giveaway, participated in tobacco coalitions, attended underage drinking coalitions, recruited students for Global Youth Service Day, & more.
Application...Interested candidates will submit resume and cover letter to hhiggins@dallascouncil.org; please notate “INTERN” in subject line.
Interview Process...The first interview will happen via email. The second via phone. The final interview is face to face.
Summary...The Council’s diverse internships provide students the experiences that prospective employers will demand.
